Climate
Unlike other countries on the equator, Peru does not enjoy an exclusive tropical climate. The varied geographic diversity with presence of the Andes and the Pacific Ocean affects the mix of climates. The currency in this country is called the Nuevo Sol unlike other South American countries, which use the Peso. You may exchange your current denomination to the Peruvian Nuevo Sol in the local hotels and banks. Though there are moneychangers on the street, who can most probably offer a better rate than the hotels and banks. It is still recommended to have your money changed with the hotels and banks to avoid getting any counterfeit Nuevo Sol.
Shopping
In your Peru travel, avoid trips to the shopping malls for authentic Peruvian souvenirs, as these are usually more expensive. Try your hand in haggling in Spanish at the local markets for your Peruvian jewelry, leather handicrafts and Alpaca (a small llama-like animal) clothing items. The Alpaca clothing items are quite unique popular in the country as it’s wool like quality keeps locals warm during the
cooler seasons.
